Great Grandma and Grandpa Miller

I just checked our email and found some beautiful pictures from Grandma Judy of Harlan and his great grandparents. Harlan is a very lucky little boy to have such wonderful family in his life.

the blister of unknown origin

Imagine our suprise when we woke up this morning and found this!!

That's Right!!! A big blister on harlan's big toe on his left foot. We have no idea how he got it. There are a few theories, like maybe when he kicks his feet against the side of his pack n play at night, but no real answer. We did have the pedi look at it, and she told us to leave it be, and just check it for signs of infection. the nerve of that blister, hanging out on my baby's foot! Of course Harlan didn't mind it being there at all, he was as happy as a clam.

4 MONTH STATS
15 lbs 4 oz, 24 and 3/4 inches long
in the 50 th percentile for both ~ Not bad for a baby that started out in the 5th percentile for both ht and wt!

We had a pretty eventful day, including the pedi appt. First we went to Lowes with Daddy to try to match our living room paint color, so we can touch it up. We were unsuccessful at matching the paint, but we had fun at the store anyway.
Lowes has all of their Christmas stuff on display already and Mommy let Harlan try on a Santa hat. It was a smidge too big.
Mommy also got Harlan's opinion on a pumpkin pie candle.

We then headed to walmart for formula, and Mommy got Harlan a bigger bath tub to play and splash in, so hopefully mommy and the kitchen floor wont be soaked after bath time
"Hey Mommy, Isnt this supposed to have water in it?"

Finally we headed to Dr. Fledderjohn's office and then home. Dr. Fledderjohn was very impressed with Harlan and he even showed her how he can roll from his belly to his back when you put him up on his arms. She said his growth is great, and that Mommy and Daddy should keep going with the cereal and then start introducing veggies in a couple of weeks.

After we got home, Harlan ate and took a nap, so Mommy and Daddy got to work moving his crib and changing table downstairs into our bedroom. Harlan heard the ruckus and woke up to entertain us with his many animal like noises while we were working. Sometimes the kid sounds like a bird screeching or a pig screaming. It is quite entertaining. After that we tried out the new tub for real.
Mommy thinks baby Harlan overdid it a little kicking in the tub, bc afterward he was not a happy camper and he acted like his legs were really hurting. After a dose of tylenol and a bottle, he was fast asleep. So we put him down in his crib, for the first time ever!

Watch Me Go!!!

Mommy and Harlan had the best Saturday night. Daddy ended up being at work late so we laid out a blanket on the floor and had some fun. We did some tummy time, some pratice crawling, and some singing and playing. Harlan's current favorite is Old MacDonald had a Farm, but I think only because Mommy makes a fool outta herself trying to make the animal noises. Mommy caught Harlan rolling from his back to side on video. He faked Mommy out, watch to find out why.
Mommy also has been feeing Harlan rice and oatmeal cereal. Today was the best day yet. He seemed to really like the oatmeal and opened his mouth up for the next bite. Daddy even got in on the feeding and was impressed with how well Harlan was doing. He fits right in this family if he is a good eater! Here are some pictures from today's late lunch This is his first bite, he looked a little unsure of the oatmeal or the camera, I'm not sure Taking a formula break! yummy oatmeal cereal And finally some pictures from Mommy and Harlan's playdate on the floor "Don't let Mommy's picture fool you, I am not sitting up on my own yet" "I'm going to get your Mr. Giraffe!" "Mommy, I am going to get away from you!" This is my new toy that vibrates when I gnaw down on it. I am really good at get it going and it has quickly become one of my favorites!

Warning: May Be Hazardous to your Health

Mommy is loving her new hours at work. It is soooooo nice to work a 12 hour shift and not be totally exhausted the next day or missing out on the day by sleeping it away. Mommy slept in a little today and then got some things done while she waited for the crew to bring her baby boy home. Now don't have a heart attack when you read this: but i actually enjoyed getting out and running some errands without Harlan. Really. I was able to go to Walmart, grab lunch, and come home and do some cleaning around the house. (really, don't act too shocked, i really did some cleaning.) Now dont give me too much credit, i didnt do like deep, crazy cleaning, but the dishes are done, the house is picked up, and all the laundry is clean!!! That is a great feeling, because now when daddy has the next 2 days off we can enjoy the 2 days with him and not have to worry about getting stuff done.

Mommy and Daddy are going to attempt to move Harlan's crib and changing table down to our bedroom so he can actually sleep in his crib and not the pack n play. This may actually happen in the next couple days, and I will let you all know how he does during his first night in the crib.

Mommy also bought Harlan some oatmeal cereal today, to see if he likes the taste of that better than the rice. After talking with Daddy, we have decided we are definitely going to wait awhile before we give him anything sweet. We want him to be a good vegetable eater or at least not hate them, but dont worry he wont be the kid that we will never let eat ice cream or anything. Remeber who his mother is. All i wanted during my pregnancy was snickers so the kid may not have a chance, but we are going to at least try to set him up for healthy eating.

We are also considering become a pet-free house. There are alot of different factors that are going into this decision, but it may be the best route for our family. We are considering finding Riley a good home with someone with time to take her out and spend time with her, where she isnt couped up in a house all day. Mommy is having a little trouble with this because Riley makes me feel safe when Harlan and I are home and Daddy is at work. But Mommy and Daddy are also very busy with work and Harlan that Riley often gets overlooked, which isnt fait to her. If anyone knows of a good home for her, please let us know. Also we have a cat we need to find a home for as well.

"Don't you guys ever plan on letting me put anything other than this yucky thing in my mouth, like some real food?"

Thanks for the jammies g-ma Judy! Is it me or does Harlan look like a hoss in this picture. My tiny little baby is a chunker!

Morning Baby, Morning Sunshine

Harlan is a morning baby all the way. He is just the happiest little fart in the mornings after a good nite of rest. He is full of smiles and laughter after his first bottle of the day. On the other hand, evenings are not our best time of day. He is usually overtired from his lack of napping and doesnt enjoy anything but his bath and being held and walked around. We are trying several different approaches to the napping situation and really it is a day to day kinda thing, usually depending on what is going on that day. I am sure we will eventually get it all sorted out and the good news is that he continues to sleep very well all through the night (*knock on wood*)

Mommy also has been trying some rice cereal with Harlan this week. Not every day but once or twice while I have been home and he seemed to be in a good mood. I have found that I have to first let him eat his bottle or it upsets him. Then after that he at least lets me put it in his mouth. He doesnt seem to really like it but he hasnt rejected it either. I have heard that adding some apple juice to it can help with the taste, so we may try that. I just wanna try to limit sweet things until I get him eating veggies, because I have heard that giving babies fruit before veggies can make them reject the veggies. So like everything else, we will try it, see how it works and go from there.
Yesterday Mommy made the cereal way too thick. I made it quite a bit thinner today and he seemed to enjoy it a little better. I am not planning on him getting it daily just yet but every few days until he gets good at the whole spoon thing, then the plan is to try veggies.

Well, little man is waking from his 15 minute power nap and starting to get upset. He will be staying with gma gigi tomorrow night, then home for the weekend. We need a relaxing weekend at home!

Finally an update for our loyal readers!

Wow has it really been a week since our last post??? Well as you can tell, life is keeping us pretty busy 'round here. Harlan is thriving and keeping very busy with family and new adventures. Just this last weekend, we were able to visit an orchard that was having a fall festival/pumpkin patch event. Mommy and G-ma Gigi quickly learned that strollers aren't a great mode of transportation through a corn maze! In other news, Harlan rolled from his back up on his side the other day...all by himself. Did you read that right?? YUP ALL BY HIMSELF. I couldn't have been more proud. Mommy put him on the floor on his back and went to do something in the kitchen (no not cook, you should know that!) and came back and he was up on his side. He has done it several times since then.

He is also working very hard on learning to crawl. He generally tolerates tummy time for longer time intervals, and plants his face in the floor and wiggles. It is so funny to watch. Daddy said he actually made it a couple of inches yesterday. I guess his new nickname should be wiggle worm!

As always I have some pictures to share with you!

This first picture is his official 4 month old birthday picture.

This is Harlan at the orchard.

Harlan REALLY wanted Mommy's rootbeer. He eyed that bottle all the way to my mouth and back to the table!

Taking a break in his stroller.

Who's that baby in the mirror??

Harlan attempting to crawl. I hope to get this on video soon, bc he really does a good job of wiggling even if he doesn't get anywhere. He needs to work on strengthening those arms!

Harlan also got a chance to spend some time with Daddy and grandma and grandpa Watts and great grandma and grandpa Miller on Monday while mommy was working. Unfortunately I dont have any pics from that visit to share but hopefully next time we will be able to get some.

Harlan goes for his 4 month appointment soon, so watch for updates. Rumor also has it that he has a great Halloween costume to show off! Mommy will be working on Halloween, so Harlan is going trick or treating with Aunt Liberty. Poor Aunt libby may not even be able to eat the candy due to her brand new braces, but she says she will have fun taking Harlan out. Mommy thinks Harlan will understand her missing his first Halloween as long as she is there next time!

So as you can see there are many exciting things to come and we are sure looking forward to watching Harlan grow and learn new things. I will try to share all of it that I can through pictures and stories!
