I love snowbear and squash!

Harlan has a buddy that Mommy and Daddy have named snowbear. Harlan seems to love to smash his face in the soft fur of the blanket/bear and then try to eat him. He has a brown one that is similar and we are currently taking name suggestions for him. He also gets gnawed on as well. Actually anything that Harlan can get in his hands and up to his mouth is fair game for a taste test.

Today was the first day Harlan got to try a vegetable. We started with squash. Mommy thought it was a good idea to try the squash herself so she would know what Harlan was eating. Ummmm. Not such a good idea. That was some nasty tasting squash and generally I am a fan of squash. Note to self: No need to try any more baby food veggies. Harlan didnt seem so sure after the first bite either.
"wait, this isnt that yummy oatmeal cereal i got yesterday!"

Next he seemes to have a staring contest with the squash. Maybe he was mentally preparing himself for the next bite. Maybe he was trying to intimadate the poor vegetable.
"Now listen here you messy yellow sticky squash, I don't like this much either but we have a job to do here!"

When that didn't work, Harlan tried to convince Mommy that eating his bib was a far better idea."
"Look Mommy, this is delish!!"

After some cheers and encouragement from Mommy, Harlan began opening his mouth and taking bites of the squash. Before we knew it half the container was gone.
"hey, this isn't so bad"

Then somebody decided he was good enough for this to take a go at it himself.
"Let me do that Mom, you are just making a mess!"

OK so he actually isnt able to feed himself yet, he grabbed the spoon when it was already in his mouth. Did I fool you????
"See I told you this was easy and yummy!"

Later, GiGi and Aunt Libster came by for a visit. They were in town visiting my brother, and couldnt resist a visit with Mommy. Ok, so they couldnt resist a visit with Harlan, but Mommy was an added bonus.
Harlan loves being with aunt liberty

During the visit we watched a show called a 102 minutes that changed the world. it was on the history channel and is real footage from several sources from 9/11. This was a very powerful show for me. There were several times i had to remind myself that this was not a movie, these were not actors, and then it was heartbreaking all over again. I am going to look into getting this on DVD because I think it will be important for Harlan and any siblings he may have to watch it one day, when they are old enough to understand and not be scared. I want them to understand that there was lots of tragedy that day but also tons of heroes. Many of whom didn't survive. I want them to understand that the world was a very different place until that day. I want them to know that even though there is bad in the world, there is also alot of good, and that they can be part of that as long as they are compassionate and understanding of others. I think I am just rambling now, but the point is, I think that our child/children would benefit from watching this.

ok enough really serious stuff. I can hear the little guy babbling away to daddy right now, while they wait for me to come and give him his bath. (harlan a bath, not daddy, i think he is very capable of cleansing himself) I am suprised that he is as awake and happy as he is today bc he hasnt napped very well since about 11 am. guess life was just too exciting today!
